K ” is the title of a series of works begun in 2017 , in which black is matter, form, surface and colour . The term, which indicates black in four-colour printing - CMYK, derives from the last letter of the word black. In its being colour and non-colour, black leads to a visual fascination that resides in its quality of negation of the image and, at the same time, in its re-presentation in the form of a mirrored surface.

It is in the order of this reciprocity that a dialogue is established between brightness and darkness , in which the unseen, the unknown and unknowable side of reality, materializes on the canvas and takes the form of fleeting bodies that disperse, extend, change and multiply. A regulated process of repetition, representation and theatricality, in which identity becomes fragile and finally ceases to be. Black on black , the overlapping signs become barely visible on the background, variants of an almost obsessive repetition, in which simplification reaches the point of annulment, definitively resolving the conflict between visible and invisible, between tangible and intangible. The series is now almost entirely covered in the same and unique black and the idea of a pure, absolute surface emerges, tautologically folded back on itself, free from narrative and emotional content. This slow and continuous process of reduction and subtraction finally reaches the threshold of total disappearance: immersion in absolute black.

The work “K-uadrato” explores “abstraction”, that is, through the work the artist focuses on the crucial aspects of the abstract concept, neglecting the less relevant or contingent details. In this case, black is used to create a psychological climate of contemplation of the work, which allows one to decipher the content that is hidden between the lights and shadows.

The canvas is a square: two meters by two meters and it is an important geometric figure also for the artist Kandinsky, who uses it to generate a sense of mystery and perfection. Jelena Milosevic's work associates the shape of the square with the same square of Kandinsky, as if it were a centrifuge of disconnected thoughts and subsequently put together.

Looking closely, you will notice how the various shades of black blend and overlap, creating a visual dance of light and shadow.

K-ronos: Black Depths - An Echo for the Safeguarding of the Seas
2019 n.1

" Series “K-ronos: Black Depths – An Echo for the Protection of the Seas“. In Greek mythology, Cronos is represented as the lord of time, associated with the concept of eternity. The canvas “K-ronos” addresses the issue of marine plastic pollution, paying particular attention to the concept of the cyclical nature of time; it leads us to reflect on the causes that occur following the actions of human beings. The figure of Cronos is often associated with a distorted or negative image of time, as “a deity that consumes and destroys what is future.

Tonal painting, with the gradual tone-on-tone application of overlapping layers of black paint, hides the difficulty of the environmental challenge, symbolizes the darkness of pollution, as well as of the reason of the human intellect, and invites the awakening of personal conscience.

The Clock makes concrete and visible an abstract thing like time, which cannot be seen or touched, and yet there is “K” in which black is matter, form, surface. 4′33″ is a composition in three movements by the American experimental composer John Cage. In the author’s intentions, the composition must consist of the sounds present in the environment in which it is performed, giving an idea of the importance of the environment itself. The work synthesizes and concretizes trilogy: of the presented object, the identification of the “non“ color and of the corporeal sound.
