JELENA MILOSEVIC, BORN IN 1992

Instinct. Randomness. Obsession. Repetition. These are the four key words that distinguish the work of

Milosevic. Black, the predominant and fundamental theme in his language, is expressed in different ways,

using different techniques and different approaches that all lead back to his obsession for black and for the concept

of perception of the presence absence of matter on the canvas.

This deep and absolute bond with the colour black, says Jelena, starts from a long way back; the artist, already painting in

at a tender age he discovers, experimenting day by day, what the enormous power of black is and, starting from works on the body

art, takes a path that leads her to arrive at a total abstraction of the canvas that leads us to immerse ourselves in works

totally black.

Milosevic's absolute favorite technique is charcoal, precisely because it conceptually connects to his work:

with the sun and with time the charcoal on the paper fades on its own, an ephemeral sign that is consumed with the

time and with the opposite of darkness, the sun.

His research is based on the use of ever new materials and canvases of various sizes which, when

Milosevic begins to work on it, he carries out a process whereby his hand never leaves the canvas and creates a real

just “happening”. Jelena goes to draw, black on black, Picasso-like figures, writings and obsessively paint the letter K, symbol of all her work and materialization of black.

The sensation one experiences in front of this series of works is one of profound disorientation, as if following the trend

constant and repetitive of the figures that Jelena goes to paint, takes us into a loop without forms and figures. This

we have to find the right angle and light. It is precisely in that moment that we discover a new world made of layers,

of twisted figures and delirious words that lead us to want to investigate ever deeper: beneath the surface.
